SOLDIER SCENES
IN T.RENTHAM CAMP. ' With almost its full 'complement of troops in training, Trentham Camp is now a busy and interesting place, l'rom revoillo till retreat the roads and parado grounds and rifle rangos on tho tills, whore tlie Engineers are working, are fined with the activity of a. military camp in full swing. And possibly the most inspiring sight of all'is the evening assembly, when all troops in camp parade on the main parade ground, and sire inspected by the Camp Commandant. At these times tho Camp Band plays haunting, strains. Line upon lino of khaki, relieved -by eun-burned faces and red pugarees, form an impressive ecene, with tho green hills as a background. Suddenly the band changes to a rousing march tune, and the troops'begin to move off. Then the animation of the scene is in startling contrast with its. previous stillness. Trentham Camp Band, which provides the musical ,accompaniments to almost every important happening in camp, from the locrnit's entry until his departure, ie one of the smartest bands in the Dominion, and there are civiilans in the city who deplore tho fact that so lew opportunities are given them to hear it play. AnotKer strong feature of Trentham now is its Bugle Band. This band, amour its many duties, parades just before "retreat," the ringing notes of the bugles echoing along the camp streets. TEen punctually at the hour-at present it ie 6 p.m.-thcy muster beneath the flag outside headquarters, and play the ensign down. Actually, a soluier with a Blow, steady movement of tne halyards, lowers the flag; but it looks as though the flag and the rousing rally on fhe bugles, acted~in unison. TKe teoops at present in Trenthara are the Thirtieth and Thifty-firet Infantrv Reinforcements, the officers, and n.c.0.*3 classes, and the engineers. .
