There are 29 North lslan<l-owne<l horses figuring in the New Zealand Cup this year, and 19 hailing from South island stables. W. O'Halloran and 11. Hanson, two jockeys well known in these parts, havo taken up their residence at Ellerelie. The' Auckland Racing Club is giving facilities for a parade of 2-year-olds at Ullerslie on Saturday. The youngsters will •be sprinted two furlongs with a barrier start and with tho colours up. Something of tho kind was suggested for the Wellington public some weeks ago, but so far the proposal has not taken definite shape.' Probably nothingTvill be done now as the majority of the.local youugsters are due to race at Opaki next week. Several training stables at Trentham' aro short-handed at the present time, and there are plenty of openings. for good light boys. ' Horses owned by Mr. G: D. Greenwood (says a Sydney writer) have only won two races at Hahdwick, and 'each time their reception lias not been exactly .flattering.' But then at race meetings many people cheer or hoot' according to the way a result affects them. ' Therefore an owner should never be greatly elated over applauso nor greatly downcast because 'of groans. Jockeys H. M'Sweeney and H. Futcher are amongst those called to tho colours in the last Gazette. ,L. Knapp, for many years, head lad at tho Porirua stables, is also in the list The .Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting will be advanced a further stago to-morrow, when, amongst other events,' the valuable, Craven Plate, ono mile and a quarter, weight for ago, will be decided..The Spring Stakes winner, Wallace Isinglass,, is engaged, as ace The Toff and Sasanof, and the three-years-olds Biplane, Prince Viridis, Bronzetti, and Thrice.. , Early in the season tho chestnut three-year-old filly Exclusive was. giving her .trainer, a lot of vronblo owing to her refusal t'o, partake of any oats. She is now doing well at the manger, and will form one of tho Endeavour Lodge team for the Trentham meeting. At Trenthnm Miss do Val has been having an easy time of it lately, but she is now to throw off her idleness and will be sharpened'up for the Wellington meeting, whi<;li takes placo this month. That good mare, Cfyakwana, has seen the last of the race tracks, and is to go to the stud. So, far nothing definite has been decided as to. which sire the Trentham mare, will first visit. .. . A Press Association telegram from Christchurch states that The Toff was scratched for the New- Zealand Cup at MUij a.m. yesterday. .•, Mr.- E.
