WEAK-MINDED CHILDREN
NORTH' ISLAND INSTITUTION NEEDED.
A olaiin for the establishment of a home for mentally defective children in the North Island was made by Mr. J. Payne (Grey Lynn) in the House of Representatives last night.! Mr. Payne said that at present the State- institutions which provided training for weak-minded children were all in the South Island, and this arrangement was a Teal hardsnip to manv North - Island parents, icould hot afford to visit their children in the South Island.. . . Mr. W. H. Field (Otaki) emphasised the ijoinfc: He mentioned that the Sonth island institutions were overcrowded, and did not provide accommodation for all the North Wand children who needed special (raining. 5 , The Minuter for Eilueation (Hon.
