, AWFUL ORDEAL OF UNHAPPY SERBIANS London, September 30. The "Times" correspondent at the Serbian headquarters states that the Bulgars are methodically destroying the population of Serbia. : Insurgent Serbs, when taken prisoner, aria invariably hangetT, unless _ their comrades rescue them 1 by storming the gaols—an event which has often occurred; There are, gibbets at every street corner, and women are hanged as well as . men, Children from 12 to 11 years of age are sent to Constantinople, and many of them have committed suicide en route by jumping from the trains. In several towns the Serbians rose, looted the shops, and secured weapons. They were victorious till, the Bulgars fought the insurgents from behind a rampart of Serbian women and. children... Tho Bulgars ordered the Serbs to be vaccinated, and inoculated them with various maladies. A town. clerk was liung up by Ws tongue on Easter Sunday, and. was tortured horribly before he expired. The insurgents have camps in the mountains. , The revolt is 'spreading from Serbia to Macedonia, and even to Bulgaria. The insurgents ha- T e defeated German battalions, and fought their way out from the regulars when surrounded, preferring death to a capture which ends in a more cruel death; and by their constant raids' and ambushes they score oft the troops. The Germans are robbing -wholesale, giving written promises for payment "when King Peter returns." They are turning severely wounded Sorbs out of the hospitals and sending their beds to Austria. The Bulgars have enrolled Serbian males from 17 to 05 iu the Bulgarian Army. Serbian mothers, moved by the lamentable cries of their children, attacked the soldiery in somo towns with stones, until gibbets were erected for hanging tho mothers. The Germans ravished even Turkish women within earshot of their husbands and fathers till the Turks murdered several German officers. A Bulgarian doctor brained twenty-four Serbs with his own hand. Serbian books have been destroyed, the , priests and schoolmasters killed or deported, and the Serbs are forcibly instructed in the Bulgarian tongue. A Serbian officer prisoner was ordered ,to take the Serbian badge from his cap, and when he refused, a Bulgarian dentist stabbed the prisoner through the luDgs in .the presence of the escort. He went unpunished. Ihe Bulbars are everywhere extorting money from-the Serbs by threats, of .internment and deportation, - and obtained 60,000 francs in a single . village near A'ish. —"The Times."
