BETTER PAY FOR BRITISH ARMY AND NAVY
' INCREASES. ANNOUNCED. London, September 30. Increases of pay for the Army _ and,. Navy have "beeu announced. Proficiency pay at the rate of threepence or sixpence a day will bo payable after six months' service, instead of two gears'. An increase of a penny a day is made in soldiers' pay for each year of service since the outbreak of the war. Men with dependants will bo relieved of the present compulsory .allotment of sixpenco a day for privates and tenpence a day for sergeants. Hospital stoppages are abolished. Able 66amcn will receive a day extra after threo years' service, with a corresponding incroaso in tho "afloat" allowance for marines. The concessions in' tho Navy, as regards allotments and hospital stoppages, aro similar to those in the Army.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reutor.
