GERMANS ON THE WHARF
A SERIOUS ALLEGATION. j A suggestion, was made 'n the House of-Representatives yesterday by Mr. Payno that in spite of all that had been ; <"iid to the contrary there were some 40 Germans working on Wellington wharf. It was not Mr. Payne's statement; it had come to him at second hand, from lonian, a naturalised Geiroan, working on the wharf-himself. .He.said that he, be- ; ing'a naturalised German, got very little i work. The others were masquerading as of different nationalities—Swedes, Swiss, and so on—but wove really Germans. •'Mr.-Massey said that every possible precaution was being taken to c-nsure the safety of ships in our ports.
