MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday Mr. fe. E. M'Carthy presided. An Italian named C'aesari Pierotli, an elderly man, was charged with being drunk, and abo with , being a. rogue and a vagabond. Inspector Marsack stated that the man camo from Tailiape, where inn-had been convicted for drunkenness and sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. Ho then came lo Wellington, and had been knocking about Cuba and Maunens Streets, sleeping in doorways. He had no money and nowhere to go, and it was found necessary in his own interests to lock him up. Pierotti was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. A returned soldier named Jack Pox, who suffered from shell shock, was charged with being found helplessly drunk in' Devon Street. The accused was beforo the Court a week ago, and was remanded for medical treatment. The Magistrate observed that it was obvious tho man could not take any alcohol, and the only thing to do was to protect him against himself. Pox was convicted and ordered to pay 17s. Pd. medical expenses, in default 6even days' imprisonment, and a prohibition order was issued against him, to be in force for a period of twelve months. Charles Haug:hey,.an old offender, was convicted of being an idle and disorderly person, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. For insobriety Thomas Adams was fined 205., in the alternative. 48 hours' imprisonment. An articled seaman named Michael Collopy was charged with deserting from an oversea vessel. Tho accused stated that he went up-country to see a friend, and when ho got back to town the 6teamer had left. Ho was convicted and sentenced to a month's imprisonment. On the application of Chief-Detective Boddam a man named Gideon ' James Grant, who was charged with leaving New Zealand after a complaint but .before a maintenance order was made against him for his five children at Waipawa, was remanded to appear at Waipawa on Thursday. MAINTENANCE CASES. . . ' William Hall Grey. Baillie, for disobeying a maintenance order, the arrears amounting to ,£2O 10s., was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, no warrant to be issued unless applied for by the police. . ■ - . . On a similar charge, except 'that t):e arrears, totalled J!l3 25., George Siggelkow was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. In the case of Elsie Anderson v. Albert Anderson, defendant was ordered to pay 10s. and' costs. Frederick Edwards, for disobedience of a. maintenance order, was. sentenced fc> a month's imprisonment, and James Luqns, similarly charged, was sentenced to. a month's imprisonment, warrant not to i6stio .unless applied for by complainant.
