She is due here about 10 o clock his morning with a general cargo and 00 tons of coal. NEW SAILING REGULATIONS. The British Admiralty has issued the folowing order:—As from July 10, 1917, every ailing vessel which exceeds 400 tonß regiaer, or which carries cargo exceeding £4000 n value, shall, when approaching or lcavtig any port of the United Kingdom, be owed within such limits as may he diccted by auy naval officer who is authorscd by the Admiralty to give orders to Jritißh ships, and every such vessel shall iay for such towage in accordance with cale of fees which have been approved iy the Admiralty. This resolution shall iot apply to vessels not being British /here nou-compliauco with regulation akes place on high se&s outside the ternorlal waters adjacent to the United Kinglom. RAKANOA FOR REPAIRS. The Union Company's Rakanoa. bound roni Westport to Gisborne, put into Wolington at about 3.30 a.m. yesterday, for cpairs to Tier engines. The work will be nit in hand to-day, and the vessel will ail to-night for Gisborne to put out a urgo or coal. There are prospects that argo for Gisborno. will be received to-day. COLLIERS AT WELLINGTON. MEBS-TABLB GOSSIP. Captain Colin M'Donald. marine superintendent for the Union Steam Ship Company, is at present in' Auckland. Mr. J. Millar, second officer on the Mararoa. has come ashore. Captain John Francis Placn, one of the earliest settlers in Fiji, died recently. Captain Place arrived in Fiji in the early 'seventies, went through the Colo war, and was thanked for his services by the late Kinc: Cakobau.' He had charge of a number of vessels in Fiji, and a short time aco took charge of the hulk Lyman D. Foster, which was toWed to New Zealand. Mr. C. H. Rice, formerly of - the New 'Zealand Shipping Company's wharf staff at Wellington, writes that he has improved sufficiently after the loss of his riffht foot on active service to be removed from Walton-ou-Thames to the OaUands Convalescent Hospital, -and hopes to return to Wellington shortly. Th( Union Company's Corinna is duo hero early-this morning from Timaru. Tonight she will sail for Nelson and New Plymouth. At 1 o'clock this morning the Kamo left for 3'icton to load chad for Wellington. Sho is duo back to-night and will sail at noon to-morrow for Greymouth. The Tarawera arrived at Auckland at 10 p.m. on Saturday., Sho is to leave there to-morrow night for Wellington direct, and is due here on Thursday night or Friday morning. At Wellington tbo vessel vi' load csy'go for Lyttelton and, Duncdin, sailing the sarno day. The Huia made a very fast run on her last trip to New Plymouth and back. She left here on Friday at 1.40 p.m., arrived at New Plymouth on Saturday, and discharged a full load and took in cargo for Wellington, leaving there at 7.30 p.m. She.arrived here yesterday at 1.25 p.m. She will sail to-day at 5 p.m. for Wanganui, returning to Wellington on Wednesday. The Hazel Repton, whioh recently arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington after a fast trip, is at present undergoing alterations. The old steam boiler on the forccastle is being taken out and a new and up-to-date locally made oil winch is being, installed. The new winch, which is ot 6 will lift a ton on the single wire rope, and. will not take up so much sp'ace as the old vertical boiler. The Hazel Repton is to leave Lyttelton on Wednesday with a cargo of produce for 0 mouth, where she will load timber for Wellington. ' Several truck-loads of salvaged winches, derricks, engines, and gear from the wrecked steamer Opouri at Greymouth were placed* on board the steamer Orepuki and takon to Lyttelton last week. ■ The cost of fitting out the Port Kembla's crew at Nelson was £325. For this purpose £250 was received From the Shipwrecked Sailors' Society. The City Council supplied the cash donation to the crew. There is still £75 outstanding on the fitting out of the crew. The scow Kereru left Lyttelton on Friday with a load of produce for Kaipara. From Kaipara she will proceed to- Hokiauga to load for Auckland.. On completion of her discharge at Auckland she will sail for Whangaroa, where she will take in a cargo of timber for Wellington.
