FOURTH DIVISION CHARITY CUP FINAL WON BY THORNDON Considerable interest was attached to the match between Thorudon jnd.Miirist Clubs played' on Association Park, Marist had won the league, and the odds were iu their favour of winning the double. But the weather conditions favoured the Thorndon team, which, setting the pace, eventually won b.y't goals to 3, From the kick-off the Blues (Thorndon) attacked, the fast right winger, Dalrymple, cleverly fed,' causing a lot if trouble to Marist backs, and badly beating O'Connoll at times. BoAh Bides attacked id turn, Marshall, and Fitzgerald being very prominent for the Greens, but Thomas and Dunne saved equally well for Thorndon. Marshall caused the Blued so'me anxious moments. Robertson cleared, lo be followed by a corner awarded to Thorndon. This Dalrymple placed well, and Nickless opened the score for the Blues. The pressure was continued, Morgan, Nickless, and Dalrymple all being prominent in their turn, whilo Conder hit the post. Marist, however, kept their- goal intact until half-time, mainly owing to steady defonco by Fitzgerald and Kelly. The Blues' backs easily'held Marist forwards. In the second spell Marist kept thojr opponents busy for quite a while, their forward lino being strengthened by Fitzgerald going up to right wing from fullback. The consistent -Gallichnu at left half, however, watched him very closely. Eventually Dunne cleared and play veered to tho other end, where Dalrymple broke clean away, and his centre allowed O'Neill to score a second goal for Thorndon. Even play followed, mainly in favour of the Blues, but nice passing led lo Marshall scoring for M-irist with the best shot of the day. Fitzgerald put in good work on the Greens right, only to be nullified by (he defence. The light but oxtremely fast forwards led, by Nickless and Dalrymple, were very aggressive, aud * nlav on the wing Nickless
cleverly added two more goals to Thorndon's ricoj;e. Ajrain fine chances were lost, each time with an .-(pen goal. !,y O'Neill and Nickless, from good centres by Morgan and Dalrymple. From now onwards the Greens got more grip of the game, and C'olomb twice scored for them, giving Henderson no chance, though tbo ''goalie" was playing his best. Exciting moments occurred, but Robertson relieved well, to be followed by Morgan missing a goal from a free-kick. Then a fruitless corner to Marist was fallowed by time being called. Air. F. O'C'onnoM was, a very efficient referee. THIRD-CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL. DECISIVE WIN FOR KAROBI. Keen interest was manifested in the meeting of Karori and Institute on Saturday, they having dratfn on the tivo previous occasions. The game was watched by a large number of lipect.itors, who thoroughly enjoyed tho exposition of football provided. Institute kicked off, and immediately invaded Knrori's goal area, but Ifankin cleared nicely and passed. the ball to Mauley, who cleverly threaded his way through. Institute ba?ks, winding up a fine solo effort by driving in a shot which gave, Cox lio chance. This' reverse livened up Institute, and M'Arthur gaining possession cent the bal! nicely on lo Owens, who sent in a shot which struck the crossbar and rebounded ".nto play, where the watchful Kussell cleared with a hefty kick. Back again came Institute, headed by Hayvije, who passed nicely lo Mence, who sent in r lovely shot, but the resourceful M'Furlane (goal) cleared splendidly. Still keeping up the pressure, Institute, by the instrumentality of Eastwood, were awarded three corners in rapid succession, which were npt improved upon. The whistle sounded for halftime'with the score—Karori'l, T s«tituto nil. On' resuming, Institute, by ;ho efforts of Mence, carried the ball into Karon's goal area, where a stinging 'shot was sent in by Houston, but again M'Farla.ie proved equal to the occasion. By the combined efforts of Mason, Wilkin, and Portor the ball was taken into 'Institute's goal-mouth, where Porter got-his opportunity, and made no mistake, and registered a magnificent goal. Karori, 2; Institute,. 0. Encouraged by their supporters, Institute made/valiant efforts to score, but Karori were not to be denied, and Russell, gaining possession, sent .the ball nicely to Hally, who in turn by a long kick passed to Wilkin, who, beating his man, passed to Manley, who scored. Karori, 3; Institute, 0. Karori's forwards were now playing with splendid combination, and one of these bouts in which nearly all the forwaids took nart endeij in Manley scoring again. Karori, 4; Institute, 0. With a few minutes to go, Institute made a determined effort to score, but it proved nonproductive, the whistle soundinjr for "no-side" shortly afterwards. JTr.
