IN AID OP DEBT REDUCTION FUND - \ A bazaar in - aid of the Debt Reduction Fund of St. Anne's (Newtown), St. Patrick's (Kilbirnie), St. Francis' (Island) Bay) and the Star of the Sea (Seatoun)Churches was opened in' St. Anne's Hall, Green Street, 1 . Newtown, on Saturday evening by His Grace Archbishop Red--wood. There was a very large attendance of. parishioners and their friends, and the hall, with its brightly-coloured draperies and attractively-arranged stalls well supplied with articles of all kinds, useful and ornamental, presented a very b'usy 4 eoene, especially when the business of the evening commenced. His Grace was formally welcomed by thc«=Ven. Archdeacon Devoy, and in a brief speech, during which, complimentary reference was made to tho.iine work done by the various Catholic guilds and associations for the benefit of the soldiers and to the untiring efforts of Archdeacon Devoy among his people, declared the bazaar open. Mr. P. L. Deans's orchestra played selections, and during the evening a may-, polo dance was performed by a large number of children in fancy dress under the direction of Mrs. Qumton; a clog dance was given by the Misses Norah Mitchell, Eileen Mitchell, Mary Hollis, Maggie Connor, Kathleen Newton, and Kathleen Reeco (trained by Miss Lily O'Leary), and a jockey dance by tho Kisses Naomi Morley, Eileen Kennedy, Edna Carter, Kathleen Bmdy,' Marion Davidson, Gertie Andrews, A Scotch dance, for which a bagpipe accompaniment was played by Mr. ,W. R. Brown, was another attraction; Among tho many raffles and art unions was one. for a soldier's outfit—consisting of- hnlf-a-dozon khaki handkerchiefs, a balaclava, shirts, and pair of socks, and a scarf. Tho Drum .and Fife Boys' Band , (of the Tasman SVeet Marist Brothers' School) plaved 'in tliq grounds outside.
