MOTOR COLLISION AT TAITA

CLAIM FOE DAMAGES. Mr. S. E. H'Carthy, S.M., delivered reserved judgment yesterday in the case of Hunt v. Roberts. On the nlglit of March 17 last George Henry Hunt and Mildred Hunt, his wife, together with thoir three children, were driving in a Ktg from tho Lower Hutt to their''home in Taila, when their vehiclo collided with u motor-car drivoa by Chaplain to Ihe Forces, H. Eobovte, of Fouthorston Camp. TJis occupants of the gig Buffered various injuries and damages, and it was alleged that defendant was, in consequence of his negligent driving, responsible for the accident. Tho plaintiff claimed J266 Ss. 6d. damages. The Magistrate, after reviewing tho evidence, raid lii'at. defendant had been travelling on his offside for at least two chains before tho accident occurred, and had ho been keeping a look-out, as was his duty, ho must have seeu tho gig in time to have averted tho accident. These acts of negligoncc, tho Magistrate hold, v/ero tho direct cause of the collision. As to tho question of damages, ho thought an award of MO would amply compensate Iho plaintiffs. Judgment was given accordingly with costs. At l.ho hearing, Sir. J. J. M'Grath appeared for tho plaintiffs and Mr. G. H. Treadwcll for the defendant. '
