Returned Soldiers' Ball. Arrangements in connection with tho returned soldiers' ball, which is to be given in the Town Hall on Friday, October 12, are well in hand, aud the ball promises to be brilliant and ol exceptional interest in several respects. "Being what it is. a. returned soldiers' function, those who attend it will see much to remind them of the part played in the war by New Zealand soldiers, both (it Gallipoli and in France. At Ibe meeting of the General Committee held at the Returned Soldiers' Club yesterday, at which "Mr. Harper presided, reports were presented of the arrangements that had been made so iar. Music for the dancing is to be provided by the Trentham Orchestra, and specially engaged trimcars will run from the Town Hail to Karori, Island Bay, and Lyull Bay for (.lie convenience of those attending the danco who will ii<ive to return to any of tlioso suburbs. Some much appreciated contribution's of money havo been re•sived by the secretaries, who would be glad if all notifications of acceptance or otherwise are sent in to them by September 30. Levvey, Miss Fraser Miss Skerrett. Mr. Irinnan and Mr. Gray secretary); Supper Committee, all "the ladies on tho executive, with tho addition of Mesdames Peat, Boden, Preston, Drams, and Mr. Seymour (secretary). The decorations are to be a notable feature of the ball. , . Jlrs. Hall-Thompson, who is m charge of the fish and chips stall at Paddy's Market, has arranged for supplies ot ovsler? from Stewart Island and Auckland, in addition to [whitebait, smoked fish, and quantities'of fresh fish of various kinds.

The ladies unanimously decided to forego prizes this year, as formerly, donating the entrance fees, without deduction, in. a soldiers' fund, and accepting a signed acknowledgment of their achioveinont instead. ' Sailors' Friond Society. Brightness was the order of things at tho seafarers' concert gjiv.en bv Miss Sussex at the Sailors' Iriond Society last evening. The, short-story competition was a great success, tho prizes coming from Wellington and the north. Mr. Moore, Missioner, pleaded, for discarded books for urie in tho institute and tho ships. The performers were: The Misses Sussex, Codk. Evans, Jacobson, and Trim, and Messrs. Cliatterton, 1 rim, Craven, Woods. Miss Cook was at the piano.

The wedding took place in the Anglican Church, Greymouth, lust week ot Privato -lohii Henry Collins, a returned soldier of tho Thirteenth Reinforcements, to Miss Beatrice Hamilton, daughter of Mrs. Hamilton and tho late Mr. N. Hamilton, of Greymouth.
