A. Reed, who won the Tcone Maliitonore Memorial Stakes and the Stewards' Hack Handicap at Otaki on Monday on Sleigut-ot-liaud and Bloomine, won the sauic nvo events last year, on Turinsamutu and Miss de Val. ■ No eipeiibe is 'being spared to iget Sasanof lit for his (Weigirt-for-ago civ gagemente at Handwiolt. liecently a special fee was paid, to allow the Melbourne Cup .winner to gallop on the course proESI- ait Kandwick. lie is to be a runner m the Spring Stakes at the A.J.O. meeting, and • will encounter a pretty strong field, including The Toll", Lingle, and Wallace Isinglass. A success in this race carries a 71b. penalty for tie Melbourne Cta). ■ ■ Advices from Sydney states that the Martian mare Bee has been blistered and turned out for a speU. linmortel, who was recently sold by R. J. ..Mason to Mi*. *11. R. Oenison, who. used to own Poiscdon, is now trained by J. Tuckerinan a't Itandwiek. When Biplane won the Rosehill Guineas he ran the nine furlongs 2isec. better than did Prince Yirldis tho week previous in the Chelmsford KtaTies. The Comedy King colt's time was only half a second outside the Australian record. The Linacre mare Veronal has won another race in Melbourne. This was the High Weight Handicap at Mnonee Valley, in which she started favurite, and led the whole way. According to a well-known Sydney sporting writer, Prince Viridis met with a full 6hare, of bad luck in the. Eosehill Guineas, and was no closer than seventh rounding the bend. Though ho then put in a run thai took him ijto second place, lie had no chance of overhauling Biplane, who ran without hock boots on this occasion. .The winner received a mixed reception. Despite his 'victory over Prince Viridis, Mr. "Baron's" colt, iB better discussed than the New Zealander for tho A.J.C. Derby. Thrice, whose lameness has, it is reported, disappeared, is mentioned <t good deal in connection with the tliree-year-old classic.
:It is very evident .th :it Gay Orusader is the best three-year-old in England today, for he has now won what is equivalent to the "Triplo Crown." viz., the three classic cvenl.3—Two Thousand Guineas. Derby, and St. Leger Stakes. The September Stakes, which was substituted for the time-honoured St. Leger, last year ■was won by tho unbeaten Hurry on, but he has not raced since.
That fine sprinter Three has been missing from the entries for Melbourne meetings for some time past. It now transpires that he has been turned out for a lengthy spell, having contracted influenza.
The Hawkcshury meeting, -which is usually held on the Saturday prior to the A..1.0. Spring fixture, was this year a.handoned owing to the inability of the Hail, way Commissioners to run special trains.
It was inadvertently stated yesierday that Mr. J. E. Henrys had declared the Masterlon weights. This should bare read Mr. Jack Henrys.
