EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The Hon. J. G.IW. Aitken; Messrs. W. Allan, T. Moss, A. W. Hogg. G. London, 1 E. P. liishworth, JL Kebbell, E. H. Penny. R. A. Wright, and W. H. Eield were present at. the monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board, held yesterday.; . The finance statement showed that the balance on September 21 was -£318 lis. lfld., as'against a credit of .£97 17s. 2d. on August 29. The receipts amounted to .1:13,957 19s. lfld., and the payments to £1:1,737 ss. 2d. The authorisations amounted to JJ3998 18s. fid. Increased Capitation. 'The following recommendation was agreed to: "That this board supports the Otago Education Board in its recommendation- for increased capitation to committees." The chairman stated that fuller details of the proposed scheme of increases were being prepared by tho secretary, and would be available at n later date. The advisability of .allowing the school children to participate in a patriotic gala in Blenheim was referred to Inspector Sturrock, and .Messrs. Fenny and Jlackay (members of the board for the. district). .The resignation of Miss Good, t.vpiste, was received and the appointment of Miss Collins was confirmed. It; was reported thai. a. grant of X-J0 had been received from the Department towards the cost of plastering the walls of the Petone Technical School. Sprintj School. The .Instructor in Agriculture forwarded a report on the spring school held at Masterton during the recent recess. This school was carried on for a fortnight, and excellent work had been done. There was an attendance of -13 teachers for ono week, and three for a fortnight, so it would lie scon that a large number of teachers gave up the whole of their recess in order to benefit by. these nature studies. Special mention was made of the instructive character of tho work done under the direction of Messrs, Gumming and Dickson. The chairman interrupted the reading of the report to move that it was so interesting that it should be typed and copies supplied io each member of the board. A special vote of thanks' was accorded .to the instructors.
