MR. MASSEI'S PKOMISE. Before the House of Kepresentativos rose last night the Prime Minister made reference to the request of the Second Division League that married recruits should have three months' grace beUeen the medical examination and nwbmsation, in order that, they might settta their affairs after tney had been pronounced fit for service. He said that the point had been-raised at the secret session on the previous evening, and he had promised Mr. T. M. Wilford (Halt) that he would make a statement regarding the request. . ' "The refluent to my mind is reasonable," said Mr. Massey "but there is difficulty in giving a definite undertaking on the noint. It is quite impossible to have a whole reinforcement exammbd in one day or one week. .There are always"'stracglers, and there is the dimculty arising from the scarcity of medial men The Defence Minister has stated that lie will do his nest to arrange a toeripd of three mclnths between the medical examination and the date of calling up. I endorse this statement, speaking as Prime Minister, and I thinK this should be accepted."
