A surprise attack by the enemy al: Huntobiso failed. Bombs from enemy aeroplanes fell among a group of Gorman prisoners, and two were killed and seven wounded. A I'reach onicial communique states: "The liveliest artillery activity prevails on. tho Aisno. Wo repulsed a raid on our outposts north of Brav-en-Laonnois The Germans on the right bank of tbo Mouse, after a bombardment" attacked our trenches north of Bois le Chaulnee, on a front of a mile and a half. Four battalions, supported by storming troops, advanced, but the attack was broken by our fire and did not reach the lines except in a few elements in'the centre, where fierce hand-to-hand fighting resulted in the ejection of the Germans. Simultaneously two secondary attacks wero launched north of Bezonvaux and south of Beaumont respectively, but were sanguinarily defeated. Our troops, leaving their trenches, rushed out to meet their assailants. Two fresh attacks in the afternoon oil tic Bois Iβ C'haulnos only increased the encmv'e losses.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter. .
