COMMENTS IN PARLIAMENT RESENTED. By Telograph—Press Association. Hokitika, September 22. | The.. Hokitika Borough Council at a meeting last evening carried tho following resolutions"That this council protests to the Right Hon. the Prime Minister at tho general charges levelled in the Legislative (jounci! against the conduct of tho jury system on the \Vcst Coast, and jioints out that fo far. as tho Westland portion of,the West Coast lias been concerned ' the charges and reflections are without cause or justification; and further, that as the action of the Government in CJie past .in creating several centres on the West Coast for sittings of the Supreme Court has not met with parent approval and success desirable tho Government bo urged to revert ,to the former practice of making; Hokitika the assize town for the West Coast; that tho attention of tho Right Hon. the Prime Minister be again drawn to tho fact that Westlajid is without representation in either House of Parliament, and'that he be urged to appoint a representative to the Legislative Council." Mr. Couson, Deputy-Mayor, of Hokitika, has telegraphed to Sir William HallJones, M.L.C., as follows •.-"The peoplo of this town and district view with resentment and a sense of injustice the statement made by the Hon. Mr. MacGregor in the Legislative .Council ill reference to the jury system w Westland, Which has always worked hero so as to leave no room for reflection ,on the integrity of the people, who much appreciate your timely remarks and recognition of the injustice done. What happens in a northern town should . n °t be lain at the door of tho whole Co«is<>, Glad if this protest could bo made public. Strong feeling liere." -
