SALVAGE CLAIM
THE STRANDING OF 'A' BARQUE. His Honour the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, on Saturday continued the hearing of the salvage claim by the Union Steam Ship Compajij (as owners of thS" tug TerawLiti) aud by E. G. F. Zohrab (as owner of the Karat a and. the Aa- ( miral) against the owners of a. barque ■wliich recently stranded near the Wellington Harbour entrance. The TJnion. Company asked for J3BOOO and Zohrab for ,£2500 as compensation for the assistance rendered the vessel. Messrs. Wilford and Levi appeared for the Union Company, Str. T. Neav« for Zohrab, and Messrs. M. Myers and L. E. Edwards for the defendants. The defence to the claims consisted, briefly, in the allegation that the barque could liavo got oft* the rocks with her own anchors, and that the services she had bee.i rendered were simply such as any ordinary coastal steamer [might have ° After hearing of evidence bad been concluded, His Honour said that he would 'hear the addresses of counsel on Saturday next.
