Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their Upper Hutt sale on Thursday, when they offered a. good yarding of cattle, which met with keen competition, a total clearance being effected. They quote—Two-year steers, to £11 135.; twenty-month steers, £7 to £8 65.: three-, year empty heifers, £7 to £7 10s.; cows with calves, £7 ss. to £9; store cows, to £6 10s.; springing heifers, £9 12s. 6d. to v £lo 145.; cows in full profit, to £15 10s.; springing cows, to £10 17s. 6d.; m.s. The Walrarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., Pahiatua, report on the special cattle sale held on account of Jtr. J. A. Hair and others, in the firm s Mangahao and Dalgety's yards (kindly lent for the occasion), on Wednesday, as follows-.-Entries came: forward in excess of advertised numbers, a total of 1324 head of all classes being yarded. Included in the offering were some good lines of station-bred cows in calf, and one and two-year steers and heifers, ex waikultu. These cattle attracted the attendance of buyers from Wai-rarapa.'Monawatii, and Hawke's Bay, and excellent prices were realised. A special feature of the sale was tho demand for nercford bulls, prices obtained exceeding aIL expectations. Jlhese were practically all Short and Levett-bred, and varied in ages from five years upwards, prices ranging from 30 to Mfjns., the seven head averaging slightly over 49gns. per head,, a buyer from weiron <=ecuring two of the lowest and tno highest prices above mentioned. Hereford cows in calf topped the market for breeding cows, a pen of <i 0 realising £17 2s. 6d. per head, the bayor being M.-. K. ftevens of Damievirke. Other lines of good quality female cattle were secured by buyers from Foxton. Feildmg. Pohansina, and Tenui.- Best bullocks sold at Horn £15 10s. to £16 15s. Inferior cattle (of which a fair number of small yearlings came forward) were not inquired for. and tho bulk of these were turned out unsold; We sold 1044 head out of the total entry, at the following prices-.-24 good-condition-ed three and four-year Hereford bullocks, £16 155.; 48 three and four-year. MONET MAKKET. The Bank of England discount rate was on January 2. 1914, reduced from 5 to <H per cent., on January 22 it was reduced to 4 per cent,, and on January 26 3 per cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it was raised tc 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 Dcr cent. On August 6 the rate was reduced to 6 per cent., ou August 7 it was further reduced to 5 per cent., on July 13, 1916, it was raißcd to 6 per cent, on January 12, 1917, it was deduced to 5J per cent., and on April 5 it was further reduced to 5 per cent. OPEN MARKET HATES. The open market discount rale for three months' bills at 413-16 por cent., as compared with 43 per cent, last week, and 519-16 per cent.-last year. Short loans are quoted at 4£ por cent., as against 4i per ccnt. last week snd 5 per cent, last year. 12s. sd. COLONIAL AifD OTHER. PBODUQE. Wheat .—Lifeless.
