AMUSEMENTS. •pABA MOUNT T HEAT BE (Courtenay Place). LAST THREE NIGHTS. MARY PIOKFORD In "TEE PRIDE OF THE CLAN," Admittedly the Finest I'icturo that has yet been Screened iu the Doiniuiou. This magnificent feature has called for appreciation from all denominations. Read the following:— The Missions to Seamen, Bow's Buildings, Queen St., Auckland. Mr. .T. F. MacMahon, Sept. 3rd, 1917. Managcr Dominion Picture Theatres, Queen Street. Dear Mr. MaeMahou,-! am writing to let you kuow how much 1 enjoyed the "Pride of the Clan" at the Queen's Theatro this (Monday) cvoniug. The most severe of critics could not justifiably take any exception to such a picture, aa it shows tho lives of simple aud trusting people of nature, aud contains a. clean and wholesomo example of ynro lovo and devotion. Would there wove more si:ch pictures shown, this would dispense with tho need of a Censor. One hears eo much criticism of different films, so I consider that wo who have to do with city reform work should bo equally fearless iu calling attention to pictures that can do no harm, but. on tho contrary, much pood. "THE MANXMAN" It is not often that the American liiov-ing-picture critics acknowledge supremacy in a film made outside the United States, but they are unanimous as to tlie outstanding merits of "The Manxman." The spectacular scenes, the acting, the extraordinary "vision" photography, all are acclaimed by them as "the best ever done iu any part of the- picture-producing world." The London Film Company took the whole of their huge acting company to tile Isle of Man, and there many of the scenes wcro lilnied. Nine thousand of the inhabitants of tho Isle are assembled in one scene, and the wonderful historic buildiniis of the oldest Parliament known to man, and the ancient Tywnald Court, are the real tiling for once, and not an imitation scenic set Btanding in an American movio studio. There are in addition vivid glimpses of many nicturcsiiue and lovely scenes in the coastlands of tho Isle. Henry Ainley reeds no praise to New Zealand audionces. his work iu "Tho Prisoner of Zenda," "Jelfs," "Sweet Lavender, and other London films having firmly established Ins popularity; but in Fred. Groves, who takes the part of the. deceived, husband, Pete, picture-goere will meet an artist of outstanding ability. Mizabeth Ktsden has tho best role of her career.
