GREAT WINDOW-SMASHING CAMPAIGN

Melbourne, September 21. Led by a half-a-dozen gins, a mob of men and women marched through tile streets, smashing shop windows on the way, to the i'edernl House, to protest against tliojGovernnienl's failura to prohibit the export of foodstuffs. When tlie House was reached the mob found it strongly guarded by mounted and foot police, who repeatedly charged. A. few of the rioters forced an entry, but were beaten back by police concealed in tho vaults. The damaged windows aro estimated to cost .EoOOO. Several arrests were made.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
