It can-be etated on official authority that the methods adopted during the past mouth justify the growing confidence in tho anti-submarine efforts. A naval officer states: "No sensational inventions have been used, and no sensational results aro to bo expected. Sinkings will continue, but the submarine campaign wjll be defeated. IF tho public knew what we know, they would not uave the slightest anxiety. Good results are being secured. In the new smoke-oloud defence system, smoke boxes aro thrown overboard, which make clouds concealing tho ships. The system hns been used for some months on the great majority of British ehips."—Reuter. BRITAIN'S FOOD REQUIREMENTS WORLD'S SHORTAGE GREATER DANGER THAN SUBMARINES. (Eec. Lord Rhondda, Pood Controller, states that tho minimum foodstuff requirements of Britain from the United States und Canada during tho ensuing year will be over 10,000,000 tons, of the value of .£250,000,000.
