A.'"Wright-(Wellington Suburbs and Country District) asked the Minister of Defence if the Uovernment had taken, anv steps, "and, If not,- whether steps, would be taken'to give effect to the request of the Second. Division League -That the. State should pay for medioul and dental services for dependants ct Soldiers whilst on active service; and that tho Government be urged that arrangements should bo made immediately witii the British Medical Association and New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association to give effect to.this resolution." This resolution was the outcome of a conference .between a sub-committee of the Second Division League Conference and' representatives of the British.Medical Association. ' ; . ' "It is not proposed that the Stale should pay- for medical and dental services for tiiejlepeudunts of soldiers whilst on active' sS^-ice/'., replied Sir. . Janus Al'en. "It is considered that such a 110vision couid not be made without inequity, and that it would present .-great administrative difficulties. The liability ~ of the Stato to dependants of soldiers can be' best discharged through the media of standard rates of pay, allowances, and pensions." '
