Ithere was a lot of galloping done at Trentham yesterday, when the trial grass was available for traiining operations. The three-year-old filly Matilda easily accounted for Bluegown at tho end of a strongly-run fivo furlongs. Both, animalß are engaged in the Trial Plate at Otaki noxt week. Johnny Walker, and Seadown finished together at tho end of half a mile. Bairnsdale, who is one of tho farcied oandidatca for" the Flying Handicap at Otaki, had Miss Doval for a companion over five furlongs. Both finished- on the bit. Menelaus was too good for Mascot over seven furlongs. Coalition and Fashion Plato -were schooled over the # big fences. Tho former ran off at one jump, but afterwards pave a good exhibition. , Itisingham, Arihia, and the' Provocation | filly went together over four furlongs. I The last-named appeared to have the Lest or tho gallop. The last advices from Melbourne stated that it had not been definitely "decided whether Thrice would fulfill his engage ment in the A.J.O. Derby or not. .Mr. Clark's colt, ca-rricd all before him aB a two-year-old, but in the Menisie Stakes at Onulfieid last month he finished out of a place.
Although the V.R.C. refused the nomination of Dr. Bennett, that Eentloman has evidently tho full confidence of his fellow-sportsmen in- Adelaide, for at the recent election for two committee men of the Adelaide Racing Club he topped the poll with 153 votes.

Zuland, who failed to win a race last peason, was successful in the Braomar Welter Handicap at Ashburton yesterday. His stable companion Mathy was made favourite in tho Spring Handicap, won by Kiljoy. The West Coast sportsman, Mr. D. H. Roberts, whoso horses arc trained hy F. Christmas at Jtiecarton, won tho two principal handicaps at Ashburton yesterday. Fiery Cross, who exhibited < good form in the autumn was successful in the County Handicap, and the Spring HaDdicap was won by Kiljoy. Two horses that were being schooled on the Opaki racecourse fell at an obstacle. One lad named Rowlands • had his leg broken iu two places, and another named Grantham had a log injured and an arm crushed.
