Coleridge Harper appears in your paper of veptember 18, appealing for funds to ameliorate their condition I venture to direct your correspondent to an organisation that arose tor the very, purpose of helping the poor. The Church Army, •started by Bev. Prebendary Carlisle in ISS2 has been most successful in dealing with this proton. It has 120 labour and rescue homes, 500 evangelists and socinl workers, aid 1800 trained workers for all fields of labour. Tour correspondent would, I believe, do well to make U3e of this great society within the Church of England, vrhioh has met with the approval of all who desire to uplift mankind. King Edward gave a large sum of money to help in this work among the poor. It lias several fresh-air homes 'in the country for mothers and young children. Medical advice is given free to poor women m Church Army homes requiring it. Evan now the Churqh Army is preparing for a Christmas dinner to thousands of children of the Londpn poor, to be named "the New Zealand Children's Gift Dinner." The State schools all over the Dominion are responding liberally to the invitation to give pennies for this worthy object.—l am, etc., P. W. WHIBLEY. The Vicarage, • Ormondville.
