MORE FOB OFFICERS, WIDOWS, AND FOE NURSES. Still "bietter pay for disabled officors, the,widows and children o'f-officers, and '■disafrled nurses is provided in a Royal Warrant 'published in Britain recently. It has effect from April 1 last. Maj. 2-Lt. <2 £ .£ ■Totally Disabled ... *50 225 375 Partly Disabled 200-50 18045 140-35 Prom lieutenant-colonel downwards tlife totally disabled pay is .£25 a year more than in the last 6calo. The increase in partial disablement :pay, now on a new system, allows a. maximum of ,£BO a year more to junior officers. An officer totally blinded in action is to get at least ,4800 a year in -wounds pension and retired pay. Education allowances up to ;£SO a jreaj for each child may be made to disabled \ officers; and pay and pensions may be brought up to a prewar earning capacity of .£3OO a year. The ponsiflps, gratuities, and illowaticea to widows and children lire:— Opt,, Lt. & Col. Lt.-Col. Major. 2-Lt. Widow's £ £ iS .£ pension 200-150 180-135 140-105 100-75 (The lesser 'amount is for death from disease or injuries attributed to or aggravated by service.) Widow's gratuity additional when-hus-band killed in action: Cpt., Col. Lt.-Col. Major. Lt.,&2-Ll. ' .-£6OO -£450 .£3OO The children's allowance in each case is '£2i ft year when the father is killed in action, and .£2O when the father died of disease. STleld-marshal's widow will Teceive a -ponsion of i£Boo and a gratuity of .£3500. A widow who remarries may have her pension, restored on second widowhood. A new provision allows .the widow of "a disabled officer one-half of iis pension. There are pensions of &Vt ■for motherless children, half the widow s •pension for an unmarried daughter where there is no widow, pensions or gratuities for needy parents, sisters, or brothers. nurse Principal _ or matron. A nurse disabled from unfitness not attributable to or aggravated by service may receive a gratuity up to ,£2OO. Under the present regulations the maximum is three months' pay.
