TJio annual report of the Poii Nicholson Yacht Club states that under tlio tipccial circumstances and abnormal conditiouß that have arisen through the European conflict, ilio club Jβ to bo congratulated on tho Bplondid results ol>tnined during tho past soason. Despite tho fact that club members have responded right liDartily to tho call for men, the entries for tho various races have, boon very gratifying. Tho first-class championship flap; was won by Major A. J. Pethoi'ick's Itona, which sailed most consistently throughout tho season, and thoroughly deserved her win. The Roua scored a total of B8 points ont of a possiblo 72. Six first-cltws races irero held, and eomo keon contests resulted as follow.—Viola, three firsts, three seconds; Kotiri, hvo firets; Eona, one first, one second; Galatea, ono second; Wairero 11, ono second. The second-class championship flag fell to Mr. J. Webb's Windward. The Windward obtained the possible number of points-72. Six races for second-class boate were held, and alter somo exciting racing resulted us . follows :—Windward, iivo'firets;. lolantne, four Becnndß; B*weno, one first, and ono second; Venus, ono second. Two general handicaps for first and second .boats.were held during tho season, and resulted in both-races being well-deserved wins for Mr G. M'Lcan'e lolanthe. During last soanon hvo long distance 1 races, which aroused considerable interest, were held, nnd after somo capital sailing and seamanship, were won by Mr. A. Elton s Venns end Mr. C. Beaumont e^ Atlanta respectively.- An ocean Tace to Port Uαderirood and baok" was put on -by the committee, but they received very tittle suipport from boat-o.vners, with the tcsnlt that only three boats ontered-naine-ly, Kotiri. Wairere, and lolanthe. SnortlV after the start, a. "southerly buetor ffas encountered, and all the boats turn-.-ed back. However, early next, morning Mr Q. M'Lean and his crew slipped out and across to the Port and back, thus completing the course and scoring a woUmerited win. The ladies' race was again a highly successful function. Six boats entered for the race, which was won. by the Bona, with Mrs. Petherick at the tiller During the season the committee made a special effort to encourage> racing among the smaller boats. With this obiect Si view it was decided to start a. series of races in Evans Bay, which were (o be sailed over a conwe m that bay. The initial race was very successful,, and tho prospects were bright bJt a sad boating fatality occurred in tho.bay, whereby on! of the most popular emafler boat owners lost his life. This s<*med to dampen the enthusiasm, but the committee is confident that-much can be done in the-direction oT encouraging the smaller boats, and very etrongly recommends to the incoming; committee this important subject for their serious consideration. The annual inter-clilb race* for 14-foot centre-board boats waa heldl at Petone, and the club's representative Mr L M'Gregor, in the Nan, after many tj? to the keeping of the club. The Winder Cup was won by Mr. Breen'e Gmty, after a eeries of races. The comnn tee endeavmif«d to brinj? off a veterans' race, but owing to W weather conditions the race dkTnot eventuate; but the commitee suggests to the incoming committee the advisability of getting the-race off early in the season. The late Mr. E. C. + Mills has bequeathed a handsome cup to the SoVwW will be shortly handed.over.
