WEEOKED.OPOUEI SOLD. A deal of interest was centred in the sale of the wrecked steamer Opouri, sis she now lies stranded on the north tin head. Greymouth. After spirited bidding the last bid of £1000 came from Captain H. Munro, of the Canterbury Steam Shin Company, who eventually sold to Mr. D. Eeece, managing owner of the Opouri Shipping Company, Christchurch. Mr. Eeece also bought tho cargo still remaining in the ship for £30. Two lifeboats and compass were offered for sale and were passed in at £30. They were subsequently sold for £40: ' ~ . . . Mr Eeece stated at tho nautical inquiry at Greymouth that the Opouri when landed in Now Zealand cost £14,000. He had a cablegram recently that a repeat order of a ship similar to the Opouri would[cost £30,000. The vessel was insured for £12,000 with the Batavia Insurance Company, Sydney. SCHOONEE HUIA DISABLED. Tho Nobel Explosives Company's auxiliary schooner Huia put into Wellington ■ yesterday afternoon for repairs to her on-•gine-room. The vessel is bound from Greymouth to Oamaru, and it is understood that her piston-rod broke ivhen she was in the Straits. The vessel anchored in Shelly Bay at 3.45 p.m. The work of repairing the rod will be commenced to-day. EOSAMOND'S ROUGH VOYAGE. The Union Company's cargo steamer Eosamond, which arrived at Dunedin on Thursday night from Wellington, experienced a very rough time all-the way from the northern port. The vessel cleared Weilineton about 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and on entering Cook Strait she encountered a heavy south-east gale. The Eosamond was continually builcted by big seas, and consequently she made very little headway. A large quantity of water found its way on hoard, and a portion of the deck cargo was damaged in consequence. The trip from Wellington occupied oyer 51 hours. Tho Rosamond sailed on Friday night for Bluff to put out the balance of her cargo. She will afterwards load at Blun Oamaru and Timaru, for Wellington, Westport, and Greymouth. CANTERBURY COMPANY'S STEAMERS. Two steamers of the Canterbury Shipping Company arc due here this week. The Storm is due on Thursday from Nydia Bay and according to present arrangements, is to sail on the same day for Lyttelton. The calm is due on Friday from Lyttelton ,aud it to leave m.tlie afternoon for Pieton and Wanganui. . BEYOND PLIMSOLL. At the Lyttclton Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning, before Mr. T. A. B. Bailev 311 Si'.cphcu Thorns, at present master of the ship Baden Powell, pleaded guilty to a charge that, .while heme the master of the steamer Huia, on August 23, he did allow the overloading of his vessel in ontravention of .Section 211 aof the Shinning and Seamen's Act, 1908. Captain Manuel Superintendent of Mercantile MariSef prosecuted, and said that the facta, which were admitted, were that the agents of the ship requested the Marine Department's surveyor -to go down at 1.30 .p.m. to inspect the deck cargo prior to the shin sailing for Wellington. The Richardson steamer Eipplo will co up on the patent slip this morning to undergo her annual overhaul, which should take about one week. The repairs to the Magic will also bo finished in about that time. The scow Hazel Kepton is now anchored in the Btream awaiting a lair wind to clear for Lyttclton. The Monowai arrived yesterday morninc from Dunedin and Uyttclton. She will sail to-day at 5 p.m. for Nanjcr, Gisborne. and Auckland. . The Tarawera left Auckland at 1 n.m. on Saturday for Wellington direct. She is due here to-day and will sail to-mor-row for Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Komata will be discharging coal at Wellington to-day. The Kini arrived early this morning with a cargo of coa! and timber from Greymouth. She will leave for Lyttelton to-morrow. The Tainui. which will leave to-morrow for Oamaru, will take cargo for Lyttelton ' The Baden Powell will sail at 4 p.m. today for Lyttelton, returning from that poit on Thursday. , . The auxiliary scow Eunice is due to-day from Greymouth with timber to put out , at Miramar. Aftor discharge she will goto Wanganui. Mothers!
