OPENING TO-NIGHT.

THE NEW OFFICIAL WAR PICTURE. The first public exhibition of "Sons of tho Empire," described as a remarkable series of pictures of the British Army and Navy on active service, will be given in the Town Hall this evening at 8 o'clock. Theso pictures provide an exceptional opportunity to study tho men,«tho apparatus, and the method of modern warfare at close quarters. The pictures show the sons of all tho great Dominions bearing their share of the Empire's groat undertaking. During the whole programme the interest, is sustain, ed, cither by the nature of the dramatio incidents recorded at the moment or by the display of instruments and processes about which everyody's curiosity is insatiable. Specially attractive pictures are those of the Fleet, a number of which were taken when the cessols were fresh from the turmoil and perils of the Battle of Jutland, and some ot the great incidents of that tremendous conflict are reflected on the screen. Tho mighty guns that are the backbone of the Army aro shpirn as they pour shells u])on the enemy's lines, and the grotesque tanks are pictured scrambling across tho battlefield and negotiating shellholes and trenches. Some very striking pictures of aeroplanes : in flight, and others taken on the machines themselves far above the battlefield are among tho best features in , the series. The net proceeds of tho exhibitions are to be utilised to provide comforts for our soldiers and sailors both hero and abroad, actually fighting or in hospitals or con. valesce'nt, and to this purpose the films have been secured by tho Y.M.C.A., which .i"! managing. the New Zealand tour.- The box plan for the season, which will end on Saturday evening and includes matinees on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, is «t the Bristol.
