UNIVERSITY BEAT OLD BOYS. There was a fair crowd at Athletic Park on Saturday when University and Old Boys met. The match had an important bearing on the -championship, and it is now possible for University to get into the final. University were the betjer team on the day and they showed much more promise than Old Boys. The first spel] ended in favour of Old Boys by 8 points to 5 points. For Old Boys, Brooker and M'Kenzie scored tries, and Morris converted one of them. Jackson scored University's first try, and Morton" converted it In tho second spell Porter got over for Old Boys, and this increased his team's lead. Old Boys, 11; University 5 Late in tho spell Morton (half-back) sent tho ball out from a scrum to the University backs. .Tackson took the pass and sent on to Aitken. who scored a fine trv. The way in. which Aitk'cn and .Tacksoil did their part in this attack was one of tho finest pieces of Eugby seen on the ground. Morton converted the try- Old Boys, It; University, 10. Almost immediately after this Jackson began a rush from University's twenty-five, and the Greens swept right through tho Old Boys' territory and over the line, where Aitken touched down. University, 13; Old Boys, 11. Before tho game ended, Wilson added another try for University, and Morton goaled. The final score was: University, 18; Old Boys, 11. Mr. A. C. Kitto was referee. ST. JOHN'S DEFEAT PETONE. On No. 2 ground at Athletic Park St. John's defeated Petonc by 13 points to 3. Tries for St. John's were obtained by Standon. Powell, and Catley. Gillespie converted two of the tries. Smith scored a try for Petone.
