OPENING OF THE SEASON.
The Wellington Bowling Club has decided to open its greens for tho season on October 6.' ■ Tho Victoria Club will open the eame afternoon. Some of the other clubs havo not yet decided on their opening dates. Thorndon is likely to open ou October 13, and probably Kclburn will also be ready by that time. The Hataitai green is iu »ood condition, and loefc ready for play at tho present time. Thanks to tho energies of some of its members, the Seatoun Club's preen has been open for plaj> for some weeks past, and some excellent "ames have-been enjoyed. Indeed, tHo ■rinks on which play has been allowed are far better than any provided.during k=t season, when the grass grub gavo a lot of trouble. At the Wellington Club a second top-dressing and light 6owiii" was eiveh the lower green as late as Inst month, owiflp to tho disturbanceof the first top-dressing by heavy rainstorms. Tho seed has sprouted well, ancl tho green looks very well indeed. The new green nt Island Bay nromises tn bo a veritable "Alabama,'. for local residents; Tho only green that, has' existed in that district hitherto has been,', the private one of Mr. Charles : Hill, senr., which is controlled by the Te Hiwi Club. / Now residents will be afforded the opportunity of a frootl green, which is handily situated on the Parade, and is passccl by every car passing to nncl from the Bay. Tho Rreeu should ,bo ready j for a short season's play by Clirisftnas.
