CUBA STREET TRAFFIC

AND THE DOUBLE TEACK.' Recently the City Council decided to give effect to the' Tramway Enginscr's recommendation to duplicate the tramway track in Cuba Street. This decision, is iiot owing to any appreciable increase in'the Cuba-Wallace Street section, but is of moment to the service as a whole. On account of tho long length, of single track the Wallace Street cars and other care that traverse Cuba Street are held •up whilst cars aro travelling the single track, with tho result that undue haste has to be observed to enable the cars to keep thoir tiine-tablo running, so that it is important to the smooth running of the service- that this track should be duplicated as early as possible. Fortunately the council .has been, ablo to secure enough rails from America ■ for tho work, and it is hoped that a 6 - , art will be made with the work at an early date.
