WAR AS IT IS

SHOWN BY SERIES OP MOVING ■ PICTURES. ■ On Monday evening the publio of Wellington will havo their first opportunity of seeing "Sons of tho Empire," a sericß of war pictures taken ainons tho British Army and Navy. Theso Dims, secured by tho Y.M.O.A. for a lour of Now Zoaland in ■tho interests of'the soldiers, will be shown here nest week only, with matince3 on Wednesday and Saturday. Tho pictures of the artillery at work, of tho infantry in attack, ar.d of the tanks and aeroplanes in action are said to be most instructive. Everybody has heard of tho "Oreme de Menthe," one of the lirst <.f the tanks to bo brought under public notice, and this historic machine, among others, is depicted wallowing in niirth■provoking unwieldiness across tho icrecn. In vivid contrast with the cumbersome landships are the aeroplanes, which are shown in characteristic performances, and from which some of the most impressive films in tho programme were actually taken. A large portion of the programme is occupied with intimate glimpses of in.rortant stages in a British offensive which is followed from tho artillery bombardment to tho gathering and searching of tho German prisoners. A brief visit to the Fleet gives the spectator at least a nodding acquaintance with warships renowned the world over, and some of the pictures have a olose boaring upon the great Battle of Jutland. It is anticipated that "Sons of the Empire" will prove a powerful attraction. Quite apoll, from its own greai claim to attention, tho picture demands patronage for the worthy object to which the resulting funds are to be devoted. All t)i« net proceeds will be used, by arrangement with the Minister of Internal Affairs, for providing comforts for our fighting men. Seats ..may ho boolicd at the Bristol. At the matinees children will bo admitted at bolf-price.
