FLAXWORKERS' STRIKE

A COMMITTEE TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE EMPLOYERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, September 13. A mass meeting of flax workers was held hero to-day in' connection with the demand for a minimum wago of 15s. a day. The present rate "minimum is 13s. • A motion was put to the meeting that the strike be confined to the Maranui • and Weka mills, where 200 hands are idle. An amendment was moved that : there bo a general strike of naxmill workers. This was carried by-209 votes to 208. This then became tho motion. An amendment was moved—"That the etrike be confined to the Weka and Maranui mills, that during its continuance a levy be made on workers in tho mills still in operation, and that s.'committee be set up to negotiate with the employers as a whole with regavd to the flaxwprkers' claims." This was carried unanimously.
