MASTERTON NOTES
At a special meeting of tho Masterton Borough Council it wns decided that a Bum of .£IOOO bo spent out of the gas revenue in constructing a coal and coko carrier at the gasworks and in extending the retort house. The Masterton County Council has "received" a circular letter from tho Eov. J. Milne, SLA., of the Thames, asking for support to a proposal that the State should control tho liquor traffic. Tho Rev. .T. H. Simmonds, principal of Wesley Training College, Auckland, is visiting the Wairarapa for eight duys, commencing on Monday, September 21. Hβ irill give a series of lectures to farmers on the subject of afforestation. The Masterton Soldiers' Entertainment Committee and tho Lady Liverpool Committee are co-operating with the commercial travellers in organising a monster crusade in the Wairarapa in the month) of November in aid of tho Red Crose funds. The Masterton County Council has declined to support a proposal of the Mt. Herbert County Council that loans be raised for the construction of hospital buildings.
