CONCILIATION COUNCIL

TRAMWAYS DISPUTE SETTLED. The Conciliation Council on Saturday resumed the hearing of the Wellington tram,way employees' dispute. The Commissioner, Mr. W. H. Hagger, presided. The assessors were: For the employees, Mossrs. A. Black, H. Carter, and E. A. Evans; for the employers (the City Corporation), Messrs. W. H. Morton, D. M'Gillivray, and M. Cable. Mr. J. Hutchison appeared as agent for the employees. , It wSs agreed that tho rates of pay should be as follow, and that a five per cent, bonus in addition should he allowed: Motormen, first and second year. Is. 2{d. per hour; third year, Is. 3d.t fourth year and after, Is. 3Jd. Conductors, first and second year, Is. ljd.; third year, Is. lid.; fourth year and after, Is. 2d. Motormen with over seven years service as motormen. Is. Id.; and conductors with a similar term of service. Is. 21d. Trackmen. Is. 2!d.; car examiners, Is. 4M.; pitmen, Is. 31d.; 6hed labourers, Is. 2*^d.; shed cleaners, Is. 3|d. > 'linesmen, Is. 5d.; assistant linesmen. Is. 4d.; permanent way repairers, _ls. 3J<l.; assistant permanent way repairers, Is. 2-Jd.; blacksmiths' strikers, Is. 35(1.; emergency linesmen, Is. 35d.; tower wagon drivers, Is. 3d.; motormen, track cleaners,, 12s. Gd.; track cleaner attendants, .£3 2s. Gd.; car cleaners, .£3; car equipment adjusters, grade 1, 7s. Gd„ grade 2, .£3 ss. It was also agreed that tho tonus should not be taken into account in tho calculation of amounts dne for overtime. An agreement upon all the matters before the council was arrived at. Tho agreement will come into force on October 3, and stand for two years. At the conclusion of the proceedings a vote of thanks to the Commissioner for his tact in handling the case was carried. •
