THE COST OF LIVING
Sir,— Concerning the world-perplexing problem of the ever-increasing cost of living, allow me to suggest the follow." ing as the solution:— 1 The arbitrament of rents. 2 The same of wages for each trade, in place of through innumerable unions of the 6ame trade as heretofore. 3 The same rate of profit for each trade, both wholesale and retail. Rural areas to be allowed a small additional percentage to cover the extra cost of transport. , i. All traders to be licensed. 5 Charges in.excess of the prescribed standard to be indictable. ■ G. The appointment of State expert* in value?, as a safeguard aßainst fictitious' cost prices (as in the Customs) Which appear to me. to comprehend the main principles linked. Other" than the alternative of the Bate proprietorship of stores and industries, and which cheapening of commodities must needs increase the demand therefor, and the increased demand in turn give impetus tq employment.-! am, etc., EQUITY.
