GERMAN BARBARITIES DENOUNCED FOUL DEEDS WILL BE PUNISHED London, September 6. The Trades Union Congress at Blackpool referred the question of air defence to its General Purposes Committee. The congress unanimously denounced Germany's submarine barbarities. Jlr. Haveloek Wilson (secretary of the Seamen and Firenien's Federation) said that the seamen had decided to see after the war that the foul deeds of Overmans were punished, whatever the Government might do; and-every crime hereafter would be recorded for punishment. The congress then welcomed tho president of the mining section, of the American Convention of Labour, who, on bei half of the organised workers <<f the United States, said that they were determined that Prnssianisrn and all it represented should be "consigned, to eveiv lasting perdition."—Aus.-N.Z. ' Cable Assn, /DECLARATION FOR FREE TRADE STOCKHOLM CONFERENCE IDEA NOT DEAD. (K«. September 1, 8 p.m.) London, September 6. The Trades Union Congress passed a nsultion in favour of Free-trade by 2 339,000 votes to 278.000. It also passed a' resolution favouring an eight-hour day in ali trades, beginning the month after the declaration of peace. Another resolution passed declared that payment to demobilised soldiers should be at ' their trado rates until they wore re-employed. Jlr. Arthur Henderson declared that the Stockholm, Conference idea was not dead and the first step had been taken ,to resurrect it.—Aub.-N.Z. Cable Assn. WAR APPOINTMENTS (fiec.
