A iinhik ofhcial report states- "i. considerable number of aeroplanes crossed the south-east coast over a wide area last night. The raiders travelled singly or in groups, which rendered it difficult to estimate their numbers; but thwo were possibly twenty. The first bombs were dropped in the London district at 11.45 p.m. and the attack continued until 1.40 in the morning. Bombs wero also dropped on the coast. The casualties reported are Bine killed and forty-nine injured. The damage is not extensive. One- machine was brought down in the eea ofE Sheerness." AIMLESS BOMB-DROPPING (Rec. September, 7, 0.50 a.m.) London, September G. The Royal Plying Corps intercepted at least half of the raiders and drove them back seawards. The vest reached London at a high altitude in three relays at intervals of twenty minutes. They did not attempt to preserve battle formation, but dropped their torpedoes and bombs aimlessly. Londoners generally took cover effectively, hence the casualties were email.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. TflE ATTACK ON CHATHAM UNPOUTUNATE NAVAL MEN WEEE ASLEEP. London, September 5. The "Daily Chronicle" elates that most of the men in tho Chatham naval establishment at the time of the raid on Monday wero asleep in their hammocks in the drill hall. Several terrific explosions occurred, and the roof was lifted off and collapsed in fragments. It is belioved that tho number of deaths will reach 230.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
