LADIES' HOCKEY
MANAWATU BEAT WAIBABAPA. A series of ladies' hockey matches, the proceeds from which are to go to the Christmas Gift Fund, was commenced on the Basin Eeservo yesterday aftornoon. The attendance was small. The ground was in excellent order. Yesterday's match was ■ between Wairarapa and Manawatu, and the result was a very easy victory for Manawatu. Manawatu played with good combination. Tiieir short, crisp passing was a fine feature of their work. Tho Palnierston girls attacked from the bully-off and kept Wairarapa defending till the end almost without a break. Wairarapa were one short of a full team, and played a Wellington substitute.
Manawatu opened the scoring account early. From a good centre Miss Kera■lake scored, and a while later Miss Collingwood found the net. Two more goals . by Mies Kerslake and one by Miss Sollit came the way of Manawatu before halftime. The score then stood: Manawatu, 5; Wairarapa, nil. In the second spell, goals were scored for Manawatu by Misses Green (2), Hodder, Collingwood, and Kerslake. Tlio game ended in favour of Manawatu by 30 goats to nil. Messrs. A; W. Manning =hhi •). C Cusack were the referees, and Mr. E. Perry was timekeeper.
