THE LATEST AIR RAID ON ENGLAND
CASUALTY LIST UNUSUALLY HEAVY London, Septembor* A British official report states: "Six aeroplanes took part in last night's raid, and proceeded in the direction of Chatham. They dropped bombs on the Isle . of Thanet and the Sheerness and Chatham area. There were no Army casualties. One civilian was killed and six injured. The. material damage was slight. Our machines went up, and onti. aircraft guns fired, without result." Tho Secretary of the Admiralty reports : "During the raid 107 navnl ratings were killed and 86 were wounded." CHANCE BOMBJIDJHE MISCHIEF (Rec. September 5, 11.5 p.m.) London, September i. A Gotba aeroplane bombed Chatham while hundreds of people were leaving the theatres. The bulk of the casualties were due to a chance bomb falling on the naval barracks. The raid lasted five minutes.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Aesn. ANOTHER. RAID (Fee. September 5, 11.30 p.m.) London, September 5. A British official report stales:—"A considerable number of the enemy aeroplanes crossed to the south-east coaat at eleven o'clock last night, and dropped bombs over a number of places.
