PBOPOSED AMENDMENTS. The following are tho clauses" ti' interest that aro included in tho bhops and Offices Amondment Act, which is being introduced to Parliament by Mr. A. JI. I Hindmarsh, M.P., and refer to tne employment of women in hotels, restaurant, private hotels, refreshment rooms, etc — "No woman shall be employed in or about any hotel, private hotel, restaurant or refreshment room ofter Jialtpast ten o'clock in the evening, except on Christmas Eve and New Years Bye, and except and unless permanent and suitable sleeping accommodation is provided for each woman employed alter half-past ten o'clock in the evening on tho premises, to the satisfaction oi the Inspector of Factories. "Provided that no woman sha 1 be employed ; in'or about any private hotel, restaurant, or refreshment room after midnightl ■ "Upon 'the application of any occupier of any restaurant or refreshment room, the Inspector of Factories may grant a. permit to such occupier to employ any woman extended hours not exceeding two and a half on any occasion; such extonded hours shall not exceed seventyfivo hours in any ono year. . In explanation of the alwvo proposed amendments it is interesting to know that up till 1910 the hours for women employed in the' places mentioned ended daily at 11.45 p.m. By tho Amendment Act of 1910 the hour was struck out altogether, and employers. were free to employ womon up to any hour providing tho daily limit was not exceeded. Now it is proposed to make 10.30 p.m. tho hour beyond which no woman shall bo employed, so-Vo under tho governingclause quoted.
