EASTBOURNE BOWLING CLUB
The annual, reunion of (ho members of the above'club, prior to the opening of the season, took place on Saturday evening, when a. patriotic smolto social was held. Mr. H. W. Shortt, the president of the club, presided There .was quite an international flavour 'niparted to this gathering- through the two visitors from America, Skipper Olsen and Mr. M'Manemin, a talented musical artist, who delighted the company by the way in which he manipulated the keyboard. Also Lieutenant Commander Kylie, who gave a very interesting account of the naval work performed by a unit of the British Navy during the last two and a half years. One of the most interesting incidents, however, was the toast of the returned soldiers, which was .responded to.by six of the convalescents from Lowij Bay, including Private Morgan, a Maori soldier, who has had the misfortune to lose both of his legs on tlio field of battle. Musical items were contributed by Mr. Sijurd Lestrup, whose rendering of the "Marseillaise" and "The Trumpeter" was very keenly appreciated; Messrs. Peake, Aubrey Mee, Shaiul, Aislabio.aiul also a recital by Mr. C. Page, and numerous funny stories by Mr. Marcus Marks. A- varied and lengthy list of toasts, most of wTiich were patriotic, helped to nijike the evening ona of the most enjoyable that the members of the club have had for quite a long time. The net proceeds in connection with this evening are being devoted to the Christmas Gift Fund for the soldiers.
