ENTERTAINING MEN ON LEAVE

WAR CONTINGENT ASSOCIATION TO BE ASSISTED. At the l meeting of the Advisory Board of the War Relief Societies, lately held in Wellington, reforenco was made to a letter which had been received ffom Lord Pluukot, stating that the War Contingent Association wanted money to spend on tlio men 011 furlough in England. Ho pointed out that through tho energies of tho Red Cross and tho war relief societies there was ample money being scint from limo to time to provido for the comforts, etc., for the sick and wounded, but there was not sufficient money for the "well" men. The chairman was instructed to cablo to Mr. J. H. B. Coates, a member of tho War Contingent Association, and find out what is really,wanted by our men. Tho following cablegram was sent:—"Regarding 'weli*' men, patriotic societies want know if monoys are required for inon oil furlough in England and Franco; for regimental funds in Prance; to whom money should be sent; and if cash grants are mado from funds to men in England. Consult your committco and Richardson, cable report." Mr. Coates has replied as follows:— "Money wanted for entertainment, etc., men on leave from Prance. General E-ichardson approves this. Richardson says ample regimental funds to provide everything needed by men -Franco and reservo units, England. Money should bo sent War Contingent Association; suggest remittance XIOOO 011 account. Association does not make cash grants bn seen that the War Contingent Association are wanting 431000 now to provide for the cniortaimucnt, etc., of tho men oil leave from Prance Donations can bo sent to Mr. R. W, Shallcrass, secretary-of tho Advisory Board P.O. box 695, Harcourt's Buildings, Wellington The chairman acknowledges roceipt of ,£OO from Mr. Martin. Chapman, K.C. ''
