A heavy demand has set in for War Loan Certificates, at Wellington. On Friday morning no less than five separate tellers were ongaged in selling War Certificates and Bonds to tho public. Every facility is being afforded, and an officer has been specially detailed to show tho public to tho counters at which sale 3 are being made, in addition to tho spocial officer who answers' all the inquiries. Without closing down its ordinary business, tho Wellington ofhee cannot offer any greater facilities than now exist to cope with the tremendous rusli of work.
The Marlborough Chamber of Commerce has offered to tho children of the schools ten War Loan Certificates as prizes for the ten best essays,upon "Why must, tho present War Loan bo supported to tho utmost of our ability?" The competition is open to any scholar attending any school in Marlborough. Essays are to be written in school liours, under supervision of teachers. Friendly societies still continue to respond well to the appeal. The Grand Lodge of Oddfellows in Dunedin is investing .£IOOO, and the Palmerston North Friendly Societies' Dispensary <£320!, which is all the cash they have available.
As was anticipated, the great rush for investment in the Wor Loan is coming at the last moment, and if the business today is anything likn m proportion it would sewn that the Minister of Finance will have every reason to be pleased with the manner in which all classes of tho public havo responded to his appeal ior cash.

Tho largest individual contributions to-day were £10,000, and The directors of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company decided to invest .£31,400 in. the WaiLoan. The amount represents the whole of the premium payable by shareholders on tho new issue of shares. The Christchurch Tramway Board has subscribed .£2BOO to tho loan. The Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association subscriptions to the War Loan to date total .£103,390.

Additional lnvcrcargill investments ■decided on to-day were—Bluff Harbour Board, .£5000; Invorcargill borough Council, .£5000; Invercargill Saleyards. Company, 3Tl®o; Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, all funds accumulated since investment in the last War Loan. Besides these, a private individual to-day invested -ESOOO, another JCIOOO, and a local firm .£2OOO. Investments through the Invercargill banks now total .£36,000, while Southlands postal total without to-day s country business is ovor £115,000. Business was veiy brisk to-day, and bankers have word of further large investments coming on Monday.
