LIVELY FIGHT IN THE NORTH SEA
FOUR GERMAN MINE SWEEPERS DESTROYED . OFF JUTLAND COAST (Rec. September 2, 11.30 p.m.)' London, September 1. A naval actiou occurred this morning near Rinkobing. Tho cannonade was exceedingly intense, and 1 after about an ■ hour lour German trawlers were clased ashoro in a burning condition. One hundred, sailors and a number of wounded men reached land.—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn. DETAILS OF THE ENCOUNTER (Rec. September 3, 1.10 a.m.) Copenhagen, September 2. British torpedo boats encountered the German armed trawlers off Nymende- I gab. Tho latter, under a brisk bombardment, were driven ashore near Bjerregaard. Jtany corpses havo- been wasted up. , (.German aeroplanes and submarines participated in the fight. A Danish officiaLcommunique confirms the details of the encounter. A Danish warship was ordered to • the scene. The British destroyers" withdrew, undamaged. Unofficial accounts state that the British pursued the trawlers, which grounded: sixty-five yards off the shore. The British opened a violent fire, whereupon tho Germans jumped intothe water. One hundred and twenty-eight were'eaved. Alt tho trawlers were completely destroyed, and ono aeroplane was shot down. Only two Germans were killed', while several were wounded.
