"The Magic Carpet."

♦ MATTERS OF INTSESBT FEOM FAE AN® NEAR.

(By Imogen.)

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Kindergarßn B^raar. largo 'are energetically working to make success of tho two-day bazaar in the Town liall early in November, in aid of tho Building Fund of the Wellington Kindergarten Association. It is not gSJicrally known that a section of land has been acquired in Taranaki Street as a. site for a central building, wherein it is proposed to house the kindergarten class, which now meets in rooms over a. Chinese fruiterer's shop, and also will provide 1:00111 for tho training of students, an office for the Director and staff, and give facilities for kindergarten work, which are at present badly needed. It will be generally conceded that tho training of the very young—especially those placed in-a'poor environment and denied the advantages other children enjoy—is a verv necessai-y work and deserving of public support; and when it is further realised that the proposed building, for which plans have been drawn, will be an addition to Wellington's* public buildings and a credit to tho city, it is felt that there will be a ready response on the occasion of the' bazaar, details of which will be unnounced" later. Gifts of all kinds aro now sought, and may bo sent to the warehouse of Messrs. Cadbury Ghuzneo Street, or will bo collected if information is sent to Mrs. Gill, Ellice Avenue, or Miss England, Molesworth Street. '

By special request of tho Couutess of Liverpool tho proceeds from the production of "The Magic Carpet" by Miss Gladys Campbell will be devoted to the' Trench Comforts Fund, a fund vhich is deserving of all help possible, providing 86 it does comforts for our boys in the trenches. Miss Campbell and her pupils, together with several well-known amateurs, aro sparing no pains to attain to the high standard of proficiency reached by "Sunset Land" last year. Special items as yet unknown to Wellington audiences will feature tho production, including the original 'Tiowpies' Ballet," tho beautiful "Carnation Ballet," and tho unique "Goblins' Ballet." The musical score is very bright and catchy, being of course in keeping with the play, which lends itself to brilliant effects. It is hoped that everyone who possibly can will make a point of being present during the season, and while seeing a performance which it is confidently hoped will well repay their attendance, they will further have the eatisfaetijn. of knowing that they will be helping a most worthy cause.
