WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB
ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Wairarapa Racine Club states that the year commonced with a credit balance on the working acoount of £597 195., and ended with a credit balance of £294 17s. 10d.,.and alsoi outstanding amountß due to the club. £376 is. Improvements to tho value of £1884 163. M. have been oarried out during that period, the principal being tho erection of more loose-boxes, and the enlargement of tno totalisator house. Tho latter building has also boen adapted for use as a military hospital, and a complete ■ sanitary and heating service has been installed, wmilar provision has been mado to tho stewards' stand. The total cost of these alterations was about £650. of which the Defence Department has agreed to pay. £322 ss. as its share of the expense. Additional grants made for patriotic purposes consist of £500 to the Salvation Army Hostel at Featherston, and £100 to the Mvorpsol Equipment and Red Cross making a total since tho war commenced of £2250. At thn request of the Government, a reduction of racing by one-third has been cMeetrd throughout tho Dominion for the ccju'iig season, and this club has be'jii curtailed by one day. The dates allotted for cnsiriug year are December 13. for n one-cay meeting, and March 14 and 15 for a t\»o r days' fixture. It is recommnnled to the incoming stewards that tho 10s. totalisator be usod for the coming mcctiigs, and that a sum not exceeding £5000 oo allocated for stakes for three days' racing, \ ith an extra £1000 if four days are available.
