Court-yesterday. Eobort Brassell was chagod with deporting from an oversea vessel xn Apiil. 1916. Mr. K. F. O'Leary appeared for accused, who in hi§. evidence stated that.-ho was a ffreman on the vessel named on the dato mentioned. He came ashoro at 6 a.m. for a drink, and returned to tho wharf a little before 7 o'clock, when he discovered that tho -vessel had -left at 6.30 <i.m. Ho missed tho vessel,.but had no intention of deserting. Ho lost between; four and five months' wages and all his Kit. About 15 months ago ho reported to the Shipping Master at Wellington, who told him that he had been posted as a deserter. -H« then got a permit to situ on tho coast, lie enlisted in the local Forces for homo service, and had been 9>«ce discharged us being unfit. Ho was now not in a sta o of health to bo to sea. Iho Macistrato dismissed tho information, holdnie tliat (,]io accused ha-d missed ht-s passatte. Vor insobriety thrco first, offenders were and fined 10s., in delUilt 24 hours imprisonment, and . another was fined Zos„ with the option of 48 hours' imprisonment.
