» POKTiMGHTLT MEETING. . A tucoting of tho Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was hold on Tuesday. Mb. M. J. Kilgour presided. The society's inspector (Captain Henry) reported on several cases of cruelty to horses, clogs, and cats. In ono instance, ii Chinaman's horso -was found to be in such a condition as to lie unfit for further scrvico, and authority • was obtained to destroy it. He further stated that cats woi'o being maimed by being caught in traps in Kent Terrace, and inquiries were being made. A lady subscriber brought under tho notice of the society the condition of a horjto which eho thought had been lame' for about threo months. Tho inspector stated that ho had mado a thorough examination of tho animal, and was of opinion that it was not lanie, but had a peculiar gait, which gavo it the appearanco of being lamo. There was some discussion on tho matter, and it was decided to Bond to the complainant tho repoit of tho inspector. Tho collections for the past fortnight totalled ,£9 11s. 6d., and the bank balance was reported at ,£l7 ss. Stl.
